Walking holidays and hiking in Galashiels

There are many walking routes in and around the Borders and over one-third of the Southern Uplands Way. The Scottish Borders has some of the country’s most beautiful scenery and what better way to enjoy it than on foot! With various different routes of varying difficulty and length, there is a wealth of choice.

The Borders Abbey Way (65 miles) is a popular choice for those on a walking holiday as well as St Cuthbert's Way (62.5 miles) from Melrose Abbey to Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island. For those a little less ambitious, there is the Berwickshire coastal path or even just an afternoon up the Eildon Hills where stunning vistas of the local countryside can be admired.

In September every year, the Borders Walking Festival takes place. This festival moves around each Border town with various different organised walks for all abilities.

An established local activity close to the Kingsknowes Hotel is the Tweed Valley Forest Festival. This family-friendly festival attracts thousands of visitors from Britain and around the world every year. The festival includes:

  • Dark Wood Glenkinnon Biodiversity Trail (Guided Walk)

  • The Big 'W' (Guided Walk)

  • Scottish Conker Championships

  • Demonstrations & Activities

  • Local Food Cooked On Tweed Green
